The Greenville Renaissance Scholars, the Optimist Club, and the City of Greenville came together at the Welcome Center for a hands-on community recycling project. Volunteers and participants worked side by side sorting empty recycled plastic and aluminum cans in an effort to promote environmental awareness and sustainability in the local community.
The Greenville Renaissance Scholars, a local youth leadership and academic program, played a key role in the event by encouraging young people to participate in the sorting process. Partnering with the Optimist Club, which focuses on supporting youth and community projects, the effort was strengthened by volunteers dedicated to making a difference. The City of Greenville also provided logistical support, ensuring proper recycling procedures and promoting environmental responsibility at the municipal level.

In a powerful show of community support and commitment to youth literacy, the Greenville Optimist Club donated more than 400 books to the Boys & Girls Club of Washington County.
The generous contribution will help the Club build a vibrant, youth-centered library designed to spark imagination, promote academic success, and foster a lifelong love of reading among its members. The new collection includes a wide range of literature—from colorful storybooks for early readers to STEM-focused titles that encourage exploration and critical thinking.
“This donation is more than just a collection of books—it’s an investment in our children’s futures,” said a representative from the Boys & Girls Club. “Access to engaging reading materials helps young people dream bigger, learn more, and believe in their own potential.”
